A game featuring miniaturized characters has sold a massive amount of copies. It Takes Two has now crossed the 20 million milestone. On Wednesday, developer Hazelight Studios thanked fans for their support of the co-op game when it revealed the latest It Takes Two‘ssales numbers.
It Takes Two is a massive success
“You’re the best fans in the world, how you have embraced our game is blowing our minds!” said Hazelight Studios on X, formerly Twitter. “We’re so grateful to every one of the millions upon millions who have enjoyed their time with Cody and May.” The game’s “F the Oscars” director Josef Fares said, “Beyond my wildest dreams,” when reposting the news to his feed.
It Takes Two is a massive critical and commercial success for Hazelight Studios. It won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, beating out tough competition like Resident Evil Village, Metroid Dread, and Psychonauts 2 in 2021 for the top prize. The game received an 88 Metacritic score, which is an accomplishment in and of itself.
It Takes Two offers a unique deal for those who want to play co-op games: If one person buys the game, they can invite a family member or friend to play with them for free. They just need to download the demo from the store. It also supports local couch co-op, which is not often seen in the modern gaming landscape.
In April, Hazelight Studios teased on X that they’ll be talking about “new (real good) stuff cooking” later in 2024. Perhaps this year’s Game Awards will be the time we hear about this news. The It Takes Two sales numbers show there will be interest in the developer’s next big game. Hopefully, no stuffed animals will be harmed in the making of it.
