Xbox Might Revive These Iconic Marvel Games; Ready For A Nostalgia Trip?

Xbox Might Revive These Iconic Marvel Games; Ready for a Nostalgia Trip

Marvel games have always been a topic of discussion, whether they are good or outright terrible. Despite a huge number of Marvel games being published over the years, there are some games we can undeniably refer to as classics from the vault. These include the two iconic Marvel games Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance that Xbox might revive. And we are surely hoping so!

Xbox Missed Big by Not Grabbing the Spiderman IP

Before we go on about how the revival will give us the nostalgic joyride, let us have a quick recap of the Xbox mishap. In 2013 Activision released the Deadpool game for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. However, in 2014, the license expired and the game was gone from the store, meaning no one could play the game again. The same case happened again with Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

These incidents made it hard for the fans to enjoy the game after they were delisted. Physical copies were being sold at an enormous price. And, the fans waited. We must not forget that even Marvel’s Spiderman went towards Xbox when they refused the IP for it.

Despite having great Spider-Man games like Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man 2, Activision was not interested in thinking long-term. The results are all in front of our eyes. But maybe finally things can change with the new rumors on the horizon.

What Does the Xbox Marvel Revival Mean?

According to Shpeshal Nick on the XboxEra Podcast, Xbox is trying to re-license the Xbox One ports of Deadpool and Marvel Ultimate Alliance for PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles. While many can think it is just for these two games coming on the newer devices, I think something bigger is afoot.

With the license for these games on hand, Xbox just might revive its Activision wing for the Marvel games. We all know that Activision was coming up with some great Spider-Man games but missed out due to overproduction.

Now, with Deadpool popular after Deadpool & Wolverine (review), Xbox might have seen the nostalgia trip card they can play with the revival of Marvel in Xbox. Marvel Ultimate Alliance already has a big fan following of gamers who desperately want to play it. If Xbox can pull off this re-licensing attempt, we will have one hell of a nostalgic rollercoaster.

However, while that is true, it is also true that others have gone miles ahead (get it?) on the Marvel train. Whether it is Sony with the successful Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 (review) games or Epic Games with the Fortnite x Marvel collaboration, everyone has made progress.

Even Marvel Rivals has made waves with a completely separate collaboration with NetEase Games for a live-action experience. If Xbox wants to bring the fans back, they will need something different and something more. With Marvel’s Blade coming to Xbox soon, I am hopeful for more.
