Make Sure Your TV is AirPlay 2 Compatible

To find out whether or not your TV is compatible, check out the AirPlay icon on your TV. Besides, you can also head over to Apple’s Home accessories web page and head into the TV section to know if your TV supports Apple’s wireless streaming protocol.

Ensure That Your iPhone Supports AirPlay 2

AirPlay 2 supports several older iPhone and iPad models. Check out the list below to ensure your device is onboard.

Mirror Your iPhone and iPad to a TV With AirPlay

This is the easiest and most fluid way of mirroring your iPhone to a TV. To do so:

• First off, ensure that your iPhone or iPad is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
• Then, swipe down and head into your iPhone or iPad’s Control Center and tap on the Screen Mirroring icon.
• Next up, select your Apple TV or AirPlay-2 compatible smart TV, and that’s it. Screen mirroring will begin right away and your iPhone or iPad will show up on your smart TV.
• To stop screen mirroring, you can simply retrace your steps and tap on Stop Mirroring.

Anything that you do on your iOS device will be mirrored on the television. Notably, flipping the iOS device from portrait to landscape mode will let you view videos by using up the entire TV screen.

Mirror Your iPhone to TV Without AirPlay

What if your TV is not AirPlay-2 compatible? Don’t worry, you can still mirror your iOS device to an unsupported TV thanks to a streaming device like Chromecast and Roku. However, do note that while Roku supports AirPlay, Chromecast doesn’t. So, to mirror your iPhone to a Chromecast device, you will need the Google Home app on your iPhone.

Sadly, all the applications that we have come across during our testing require a paid tier to mirror your iPhone to a TV. But, DoCast (Download) is one free application that you can try. But, it only allows 15 minutes of free time to mirror the iPhone. While the screen mirroring was not as seamless as with an AirPlay TV, it still works well enough.

The process is also pretty simple with most apps as with DoCast. Here’s a quick rundown:

• Once you have installed and set up DoCast, your TV should instantly appear on the app. Tap on it and select Screen.

• Then, hit the Start mirroring option at the bottom and tap on Start Broadcast in the popup window.
• You can retrace your steps and tap on Stop Broadcast to stop the screen mirroring.

And, just like that, you can connect your iPhone to a Chromecast-running TV.

So, that’s how you can stream your favorite videos or mirror the screen of your iPhone or iPad to an Android TV or Smart TV. While AirPlay 2 makes it all easy for your iPhone to connect to a TV, if your TV does not support AirPlay, you’re left with no other option but to pay for a good tool.

Otherwise, you can take the wired way out and simply make use of a Lightning to HDMI or Type-C to HDMI adapter and connect it to your TV. Then, after simply setting the right HDMI input source on your TV, your iPhone will instantly start mirroring.
