Despite the fact that we all agree that shooting games should be played with a classic mouse and keyboard combo, people are always curious about controller support. Whether for good or bad, Valve games previously did not come with native controller support. That begs the question if it is the same about Valve’s ongoing MOBA shooter Deadlock. So, if you want to know if Deadlock has controller support keep reading.
Does Deadlock Support a Controller?
Let’s get the pressing question out of the way. Deadlock does indeed have controller support. Despite being in early development, you can use any supported controller to play the game. Valve’s other MOBA Dota 2 got controller support after years of its presence.
Especially, with the introduction of Steamdeck. This made players speculate if the case for Deadlock would be the same. In multiple Reddit threads players speculated that Deadlock might not have native controller support due to aim assist issues or the MOBA game’s excessive buttons issues.
Well, for now, Deadlock seems to be working on controllers. This might be possible because of Deadlock’s availability on Steamdeck. If your controller has a gyro feature, even that will translate to the game. However, keep in mind that Deadlock will show it does not support a controller and will try to translate Steam input made for Steamdeck. Despite that, you will still have the option to play the game.
How to Enable Controller Support on Deadlock
Although you can play the game on a controller as soon as you get a friend invite on Deadlock, there can be complications. The game should automatically detect the controller if you connect it before booting up the game. However, if it doesn’t, follow the process below step-by-step to enable controller support on Deadlock:
- Right-click on Deadlock from your Steam library and select Properties.
- Go to the Controller tab and select Use default settings.
- You can also select the Enable Steam Input option if default settings don’t work.
How to Remap Controller Buttons on Deadlock
After enabling controller support on Deadlock, remember that a lot of buttons you use on the keyboard might be missing on the controller. You can fix this by using the controller button remapping. To open your controllers’ settings for Deadlock on Steam, go to Properties -> Controller. Now, select the Controller Configuration option.
Once you open the configuration option, it will show the supported controller connected to Steam. If you are using an unsupported controller, Steam will try to assign buttons according to the Steam input. However, from this menu, you can change the button layout, gyro settings, and much more for your controller. You can also disable Steam input and completely customize the settings.
Whether Deadlock will have aim-assist or not, there is no official announcement on it yet. As the game supports the controller easily on PC, there is always an outside chance for Deadlock to be on consoles.
Now that you know if Deadlock supports a controller, will you play the game on it? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
Yes, although there is no aim assist on Deadlock, if you use controllers that support gyro movement, it will be enabled automatically in Deadlock.
