Jujutsu Kaisen features numerous powerful techniques that the sorcerers use to overwhelm their enemies. One such technique is the Ten Shadow Technique, which the ones belonging to the Zenin Clan have hold of. Since the beginning of the series, we have seen Megumi Fushiguro (he assumed his mother’s last name instead of his clan) using this coveted technique during missions. So, here, we discuss exactly what the Ten Shadows Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen is.
Spoiler Warning: This post includes major spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga by Gege Akutami.
The Ten Shadows Technique Explained
Ten Shadows is an incredible technique that the members of the Zenin Clan inherit, which is said to be one of the most potent families in Jujutsu Kaisen. The Ten Shadows technique allows the user to use ten different shikigamis when confronting adversaries.
Initially, the user is allowed to use two divine dogs, but later, to summon a shikigami, the user must defeat them to become their master. Whenever a shikigami is defeated by a Ten Shadows Technique user, they don’t have any choice but to allow the victor to take complete control of them.
After dominating the shikigamis, the user has to summon them using the hand signs, creating shadow puppets of the respective familiar. The hand signs should reflect the shape of the shinigami, and the ritual process to exorcise them should be intact. However, the manifestation of every shikigami depends on the level of cursed energy.
For instance, if the user has a low cursed energy, they cannot summon a powerful shikigami. Given that, a strong shikigami requires a high level of cursed energy. Moreover, whenever a shikigami of the Ten Shadows user dies, it cannot be revived even by the strongest users. Instead, their powers get carried out by the remaining shikigamis.
Ten Shikigami Summoned By the Ten Shadows Technique
Divine Dogs
Divine Dogs are a pair of black-and-white wolves that come as a gift for the users who inherit this technique. To be precise, the users don’t have to win them. All they need to do is clasp both hands and form a shadow puppet reflecting the wolf’s head.
These wolves are the biggest support in offensive and defensive states as they can tear adversaries into two parts with their sharp fangs.
Nue
Nue is an owl Shikigami who can provide backup to its user by scouting a large area, thanks to its ability to fly. The user’s shadow puppet must reflect the shikigami’s wings, and then it is good to go. Nue can serve as an excellent teammate not only to the user but also to the other shikigamis.
Toad
Now, this is a shikigami that Megumi sees as one of the weakest. So, he uses it whenever he needs his injured peers to stay away from the fight. The toad uses its long tongue to carry the injured ones in his mouth and take them to a safe place. On the other hand, it can also pick up enemies with the help of its tongue and throw them away with great force.
Great Serpent
The giant serpent is a shikigami that is a good alternative when it comes to surprise attacks as it can ensnare the enemies, even special grade curses, by appearing suddenly out of nowhere. It also has the ability to neutralize the target, and that’s how it saves Nobara from almost getting killed in battle.
Max Elephant
Max Elephant has the ability to wash an entire corridor and attack a large number of enemies by throwing a large volume of water from its trunk. The shikigami can also kill enemies by crushing them with its heavy foot. Max Elephant requires a heavy level of cursed energy to be summoned.
Rabbit Escape
Once the user makes a shadow puppet resembling the rabbit’s head, the place gets filled with rabbits. The small creatures aren’t that fearful, so they are not used to attacking an enemy. In fact, the Zenin Clan member possessing this technique uses this shikigami to distract the opponent and buy time for the master and their peers.
Round Deer
The Round Deer serves as a doctor for the user as it has healing abilities. Besides that, it can also unleash heavy counter-attacks on enemies, a glimpse of which was seen when Sukuna in Megumi’s body summoned the shikigami in the fight against Yoruzu.
Piercing Ox
Piercing Ox is a powerful shikigami first manifested by Sukuna in Megumi’s body to overwhelm Yoruzu, who was in Megumi’s sister’s body at that time. This shikigami is a large Ox who can only release attacks in a straight line. However, despite this, he is one of the robust shikigamis that proved to be an asset to its users.
Tiger Funeral
This one’s a shikigami that has remained a mystery for a long time as it was never manifested on its own. Sukuna once summoned it alongside the Great Serpent, Nue, and Round Deer to dominate the fight with the gifted sorcerer Gojo. Learn who won the fight between Gojo and Sukuna.
General Mahoraga
This shikigami doesn’t need a detailed introduction, right? General Mahoraga was the one who killed our favorite Gojo Satoru. It is the most powerful shikigami any clan in history could have, as it comes with two deadly abilities. One allows it to adapt to every phenomenon; the other is the Sword of Extermination.
Ten Shadows Technique’s Domain Expansion Explained
The Ten Shadows technique user also blesses the user with a potent domain called Chimera Shadow Garden. Whenever a user expands their domain, the surroundings get filled with some sort of heavy shadows.
The user can manifest as many shikigami as they want inside the domain. They can also manipulate the shadows as required. However, the domain becomes fruitful when used by an experienced Zenin clan member.
Megumi always had a strong will that took him beyond his limits several times. So, in a battle when the young sorcerer manifested Chimera Shadow Garden, he had to use most of his Cursed Energy in the first place. Secondly, this time, he had to face several physical restrictions due to over-exertion.
However, despite the backlash, Megumi’s efforts didn’t go in vain, as the Ten Shadows technique even worked better than it ever had.
