Spoiler Warning: This article includes major spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
Gege Akutami’s outstanding Shonen manga, Jujutsu Kaisen, ended with Chapter 271 this weekend after more than six years. After Gojo was unexpectedly defeated by Sukuna, the King of Curses, fans didn’t give up hope and kept waiting for the comeback of the Six Eyes prodigy. Although Yuta took over Gojo’s body, it technically marked the return of Gojo to the battlefield. However, Yuta’s soul returned to his own body in the epilogue, and that made fans even more hopeful about Gojo’s return in the last chapter of the JJK manga. So, does Gojo Satoru come back from the dead in the final chapter, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271? Let’s find out!
Is Gojo Revived in Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Chapter?
I will be honest, as an ardent Jujutsu Kaisen manga reader, at first I wanted our beloved sensei to return from the dead as well. See how Gojo was killed by Sukuna. However, as his student Itadori Yuji started to shine, it made sense that Yuji took over the mantle and acted like the protagonist as Gojo wanted him to.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, back in Chapter 261, Gege surprised everyone with Yuta taking over Gojo’s body. At least in this way, Gojo’s comeback in the series was meaningful and didn’t steal the spotlight completely from the protagonist.
But in the end, Yuta was able to go back to his own body, huge thanks to Rika. We were also stunned to see Higuruma cheating death. These unexpected twists in the chapters leading to the finale made the fans hopeful, and they came up with new theories of Gojo’s return. Even our Editor Anmol had a crazy but plausible theory for how Gojo could come back.
But all the efforts went in vain, as Gojo wasn’t revived in the last chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, as fans had hoped for.
Gojo Satoru Did Return in JJK’s Final Chapter But Not How We Expected
While he wasn’t resurrected by Gege Akutami, Gojo Satoru did make an appearance in the final chapter of the Jujutsu Kaisen. Satoru was part of JJK Chapter 271 in a flashback sequence, where he can be seen conversing with Yuji.
In this conversation between Yuji and his mentor, the strongest sorcerer alive mentioned how his students may forget him as they continue to grow as sorcerers. Furthermore, Yuji emphasized that no one could forget their sensei. It’s clear that Gojo felt lonely at the top, but we are glad that Yuji reassured him in his final moments.
Just like us, Satoru also had high expectations for Itadori Yuji. This particular moment hit me right in the feels (as well as for fans) who have been fawning over this man for the last six years. While all these moments put a nice pin in Gojo’s story, Gege completely avoided talking about Gojo’s death in the final chapters and didn’t even give him a proper farewell.
If you read the last few chapters, Gojo’s death was never mentioned or acknowledged at all in the end. We got to Tsumiki Fushiguro’s grave but our dearest sensei didn’t get a burial scene.
These actions led to huge disappointment among Gojo fans. But a part of the fandom is taking this positively. Now, for the nth time, fans believe Gojo still might come back in Jujutsu Kaisen Part 2 as Gojo’s death was never properly addressed by Gege in JJK. This is wishful thinking as no sequel for Jujutsu Kaisen is in the works or coming anytime soon.
So, to wrap it up, Gojo Satoru is dead and wasn’t revived in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271, unlike other supporting characters. That said, what do you think about this conclusion? Share your opinions with us in the comments below.
