  • Japanese Name: イム
  • English Name: Imu or Im

As One Piece fanatics must be aware, Imu is the most powerful being in the entire universe. It was mind-blowing to learn that there was a person who had been secretly pulling the strings in the background, controlling even the Five Elders. Imu is the secret ruler of the One Piece world and owns the so-thought-empty throne.

As a result, Imu holds the highest authority more than anyone else in the world. This was confirmed when the Five Elders (Gorosei) in One Piece who were thought to be the supreme authorities bowed down to Imu.

Imu’s existence is known to only a handful of people and will remain so for the time being. Anyone who learns about Imu’s presence will be punished to death as seen with Nefertari Cobra. But based on how the events are transpiring in the manga right now, their secret will be brought to the light sooner or later and the world shall know Imu!

Therefore, Imu will serve as the final boss in One Piece and may well be the evilest antagonist in the history of One Piece.

Everything We Know About Imu’s Past

During his first encounter, Nefertari Cobra mentioned that Imu has a connection to the First Twenty Founders of the World Government. In One Piece chapter 1086, Emporio Ivankov suggested that Imu is indeed connected to the First Twenty Founders and Imu’s true identity isSaint Nerona Imu. This person hails from the Nerona family, one of the First Twenty Founders from 800 years ago.

Ivankov believes that Imu got the Perennial Youth Operation from the previous Ope Ope no Mi (Op Op fruit) devil fruit user (current user is Trafalgar Law) to grant themselves eternal youth or immortality. Furthermore, Marcus Mars, one of the Five Elders, referred to Imu as the “Creator,” which could be a huge hint to Ivankov’s theory being true.

It only makes this way to how a character can last for ages and it could also be the case where Imu shared this immortal power with the Five Elders. Because they are confirmed to have been existing for an unusually long time in the recent chapters of the Egghead arc.

  • Debut: Episode 885 and Manga Chapter 906

Eiichiro Oda first introduced Imu in the Reverie arc in One Piece manga chapter 906, which was adapted in anime episode 885. To this day, discovering that there was a hidden ruler all along is one of the most unexpected plot twists for fans in the series’ history.

As previously said, it has been more than five years since we were introduced to Imu, and we only know a little about this enigmatic figure.

Imu’s gender has not been revealed yet. While most of the fandom considers Imu to be female, there isn’t any solid evidence to back up that claim. In one instance, Imu was referred to as Imu-sama, but it should be noted that Sama is a gender-neutral termin Japanese. Therefore, let’s wait for the official confirmation and not draw a conclusion based on speculations.

There is no concrete evidence that Imu is Luffy’s mother but there was another character introduced in the manga recently, Ginny, who is speculated to be Luffy’s or Bonney’s mother by fans.

Although we don’t know Imu’s gender, we know their pronouns. Imu favors and employs the first-person pronoun “Mu (ムー)”, which is borrowed from their name. It’s also noted that Imu uses“Nushia (ヌシア)” for others.

We don’t know much about Imu’s powers at the moment. When Sabo infiltrated and learned about their secret identity, Imu and the Five Elders turned into their monster forms which were hidden as a silhouette by Oda. The devil forms of the Five Elders were revealed in the Egghead arc, strongly hinting at Imu having a devil fruit power just like them.

In the same fight, Imu was seen possessing a devil’s tail, which they used to thrust and deliver substantial damage to King Cobra and Sabo. Furthermore, as Imu is the supreme ruler of this world, they have control over everything including Uranus, one of the ancient weapons. In the Egghead arc, it is now confirmed that Imu obliterated the Lulusia Kingdom with the Uranus that was powered by the “Mother Flame,” invented by Dr. Vegapunk.

Imu being the final boss and the supreme ruler of this world means they have one of the sovereign world-ending powers. It makes sense that way, doesn’t it? With this mighty power, Imu killed St. Saturn from miles away from him as his mission at the Egghead was unsuccessful. We will update this section as soon as we hear more updates about Imu’s powers in the manga.
