How to use the new Apple Passwords app on iPhone and Mac

With the latest iOS 18, Apple brings a dedicated Passwords app that lets you manage the passwords for all your websites and apps. Beyond managing your login details, the app can also handle your passkeys, verification codes, Wi-Fi details, and more. The Passwords app is available in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. If you’ve updated to the new operating systems, all your passwords and other information will be synced across your devices. Read on to learn how to use the iOS 18 Passwords app on iPhone.

Set Up and Use the iOS 18 Passwords App

Until iOS 17, all your passwords were stored in iCloud Keychain, which was buried deep inside the Settings app. Once you’ve upgraded to iOS 18, you’ll see a dedicated Passwords app on the Home Screen, labeled as Passwords with a key icon. If you have been using the iCloud Keychain, all your passwords will be automatically moved to the app.

Here’s how to use the iOS 18 Passwords app:

  • Open the Passwords app from the Home Screen or the Spotlight search.
  • Verify your Face ID, Touch ID, or Passcode to unlock.
  • When you open the app for the first time, you’ll be asked if you wish to allow the Passwords app to send notifications when you save/change passwords or if any of your saved passwords is compromised in a data breach. Tap Continue and hit the Allow or Don’t Allow button.
  • The app will now show you a dashboard with several sections like All (all your passwords), Passkeys, Wi-Fi, Codes, Security recommendations, and anything that you’ve deleted.
  • To view your imported passwords, tap on All. Now, tap on a specific account to see its name and password.
