Like most Dragon Ball games, Dragon Ball Sparking Zero allows players to collect sets of dragon balls and summon their respective dragons for rewards. However, not all wishes are created equal, so let’s run through each dragon’s wishes and make sure you don’t let any wish go to waste.
Shenron’s Wishes
The OG set of Dragon Balls can grant useful wishes, though, unlike his late-Dragon Ball Z counterpart, Shenron only grants one wish and not the three wishes he does after Dende upgrades him. Here are all of Shenron’s wishes:
- I want more Zeni: Grants 300,000 Zeni.
- I want you to raise my Player Level: Increases your player level (unavailable if at level 20).
- I want more titles: Choose a new title for your player card.
- I want new outfits: Unlock an alternate costume.
- I want to complete an Episode Battle: Grants one Dragon Orb.
Shenron’s best wish is certainly I want to complete an Episode Battle. This will give you one Dragon Orb to use in the game’s Episode Battle mode. You may have noticed on the Episode Battle maps “Dragon Orb x0” in the corner and wondered what they were and how to get them. Only by wishing for a Dragon Orb can you acquire one, and you’ll use these to lower the difficulty of the secondary objective of a chosen Episode Battle. If you’re struggling to unlock a character’s Sparking Episode or alternate ending, using a Dragon Orb will make the necessary fight easier.
I want you to raise my Player Level is also a good choice if you’re eager to have characters and costumes added to the shop quickly. With the level cap only being 20, personally I’d rather play through the game and level up organically, but your opinion may be different. As I want more Zeni grants just as much or more currency than the outfits from the I want new outfits wish would cost, you’d be better off just taking the money and running.
Porunga’s Wishes
Porunga may not have the best wishes in the game, but he does fulfill three of them at a time, easily allowing you to rack up Zeni or titles. Porunga’s set of wishes is:
- I want more Zeni: Grants 120,000 Zeni.
- I want you to raise my Player Level: Increases your player level (unavailable if at level 20).
- I want more titles: Choose a new title for your player card.
- I want ability items: Select a new ability item to use in character customization.
The Namekian Dragon Balls are the hardest to obtain in Sparking Zero, but frustratingly offer lower-tier wishes. Without I want to complete an Episode Battle, Porunga’s wishes just aren’t as great as Shenron or Super Shenron’s.
As I first summoned Porung after around 50 hours of playing, I had already hit the level cap, meaning I didn’t even have the I want you to raise my Player Level wish. I wouldn’t be surprised if many other players found themselves in this situation. Because of this, I want ability items and I want more Zeni are Porgunga’s best wishes. Unless you really care about titles, enjoy the free ability item unlocks and Zeni.
Super Shenron’s Wishes
Just like in the anime, the Super Dragon Balls are the most powerful set in Sparking Zero and can grant better wishes than Earth’s or Namek’s sets. Here are Super Shenron’s wishes:
- I want more characters: Unlock one of Goku Black or Fused Zamasu.
- I want more Zeni: Grants 1,000,000 Zeni.
- I want you to raise my Player Level: Increases your player level (unavailable if at level 20).
- I want new outfits: Obtain one of the more expensive costumes.
- I want more titles: Choose a new title for your player card.
- I want ability items: Unlock a top-tier ability item.
While Super Shenron has the best wishes, they can actually be rather wasteful. For example, the first time I summoned Super Shenron, I really wanted Whis’ armor for Vegeta to be unlocked, as it costs 300,000 Zeni, and so I selected I want new outfits. Little did I know at the time that Super Shenron’s I want more Zeni wish grants 1,000,000 Zeni. This means you could unlock three of the most expensive costumes with this wish and still have 100,000 left over.
Depending on how eager you are to play as Goku Black or Fused Zamasu, I want more characters might be Super Shenron’s best wish. They’ll appear in the shop at level 20 (organically achieved around 30 hours or so), but, as they’re some of the best characters in the game, you might not want to say no to playing as them earlier. Like every other character in the shop, purchasing the base form unlocks their transformations as well.
For the very obsessive collectors, I want more titles will be the best Super Shenron wish. The selectable titles are exclusive to this wish, so if you care more about your player card than free unlocks, use each set of Super Dragon Balls on a new title.
How to Get Dragon Balls
You’ll easily obtain a set of Earth’s Dragon Balls through naturally playing the game. Whis’ Stamp Book awards them through simple things like winning 10 battles in Goku’s Saga or editing your player card once. If you don’t have a full set after trying out each of the game modes during your first few hours, just go to Whis’ Stamp Book to see which objective you’re missing.
Aside from Whis’ Stamp Book, be prepared to grind a ton to collect Earth’s and Namek’s Dragon Balls. They are sparingly rewarded after fights. We don’t know the exact drop rate, but it seems like Shenron’s Dragon Balls have about a 5% chance of being rewarded after a victorious battle, with Porunga’s drop rate even lower. A prevailing strategy rising in the community is to grind out offline 1v1 fights by quickly knocking foes out of bounds on the World Tournament Stage. I tried this approach for about 3.5 hours and was rewarded with a full Porunga set and half a Shenron set, so it can quickly lead to gathering Dragon Balls, though it may not be the most fun way to go about playing Sparking Zero.
The Super Dragon Balls are the most scarce. You can obtain three full sets via the Episode Battle mode. Completing Goku and Jiren’s Sagas will reward players with a set of Super Dragon Balls – on brand, as their stories finish with the Tournament of Power. You’ll obtain more Super Dragon Balls by finishing Future Trunks’s Sparking Episode as well. You should note, however, that you can only hold one set of Super Dragon Balls at a time, whether by design or because of a bug/glitch. For example, completing Goku’s Saga then Jiren’s without using the Super Dragon Balls will not reward you with a second set and you’ll receive a message saying as such.
