After Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. was never seen in any Marvel project, but now he is finally returning to where he belongs. Thanks to Kevin Feige, who convinced him to return to the MCU. However, this time, not as Tony Stark/Iron Man but as Victor Von Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Well, not many of us know about this character that our beloved actor will portray in the MCU. So, without any delay, let’s find out who is Victor Von Doom and what are his powers and abilities.
MCU’s Victor Von Doom Explained
Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom is the brainchild of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. He is a supervillain with a deep hatred for the Fantastic Four, especially Reed Richards. That’s because the duo have had a history. When they were in college, Victor created a transdimensional device with the help of science and sorcery. However, when Richard tries to fix something in the machine, Doom ignores him completely, and the machine eventually explodes, giving the villain a scarred face. Since then, Victor and Reed Richards have become nemesis to each other.
Doom was born to a poor gypsie couple in Latveria. At a very young age, he was orphaned, and soon, he learned that his mother traded his soul to a demon for some unknown selfish reasons. That’s why he chose to walk on a dark road. He was brilliant in Science, so he got a scholarship to one of the prestigious colleges in New York with ease. He meets Reed Richards, another brilliant mind, and the duo’s enmity starts there.
Victor Von Doom Becomes Doctor Doom
After receiving the scars on their faces, Doom went to Tibet, where he manipulated some monks to learn their secrets. Then, he instructed the monks to create an armored suit and mask so that he didn’t have to show his scarred face to the world. After that, he became Doctor Doom and returned to his birthplace, Latveria. He replaced the monarch and became the self-proclaimed ruler of the capital city of Doomstadt, which he renamed.
Doctor Doom’s Powers and Abilities
Unlike other superheroes or supervillains, Doctor Doom wasn’t born with powers; he gradually earned them. During his time in Tibet, he learned magic from a circle of monks and a powerful sorceress, Morgan le Fay. Furthermore, he traded his former lover’s soul to a demon in exchange for exceptional magical abilities. He also learned black magic to reach the depths of hell and tackle the beings of the other dimension.
The other thing that makes him a potential villain is his mastery of Science. He is not considered the most intelligent Marvel villain without any reason. He has knowledge of almost every scientific field, including Cybernetics and Robotics. After acquiring the capital city of Doomstadt, Doctor Doom forged some robot slaves and numerous doppelgangers of himself.
Above everything, the armored suit that he is seen wearing all the time seems like a normal thing, but only Doom knows what it can actually do. The armor can not only protect the villain from deadly attacks but also contribute to enhancing its physical strength. Besides that, the suit is equipped with some weapons that Doctor Doom uses in the confrontation with enemies.
