Genshin Impact is soon adding the Natlan region to the base game, potentially making version 5.0 one of the biggest updates in the game’s history. The Natlan region is expected to be ruled by the Pyro Archon, who is also considered one of the strongest archons in the lore, nicknamed Goddess of War. The recent Natlan Ignition teaser from Genshin Impact and the 5.0 Livestream has confirmed that Mavuika is the Pyro Archon of Natlan. However, there are still many doubts regarding that claim as players are expecting Hoyoverse to pull another story trick like they did with Furina in Fontaine. So who is the real Pyro Archon in Genshin Impact? Let’s take a closer look at all the available details to find the answer.
Archons vs Dragon Sovereigns: What’s the Difference
Every major region of Teyvat is ruled by their respective Archons, however, they were not the original rulers of Teyvat. Before humans and the Primordial One arrived in Teyvat and took control, the Dragon Sovereigns ruled over the land. Like the Archons, the Dragon Sovereigns were highly powerful elemental Dragons that ruled each of the respective lands, like the Dendro Dragon Sovereign ruling over Sumeru.
After a long-drawn war between the Archons, who came from outer worlds, and the native Dragon Sovereigns, the Archons won the war and started the age of humans in Teyvat. On the other hand, the Dragon Sovereigns may have seen defeat, but they still existed in Teyvat, and like the Archons, they also changed over time.
The most recent example of a Dragon Sovereign is Neuvillette, who is the Hydro Dragon Sovereign over Fontaine. After the defeat of the original Hydro Dragon Sovereign, it was prophesied that the new Hydro Sovereign would be born as a Human, as the original Dragon bloodline had become too corrupted. Similarly, Dvalin the Storm Dragon could be considered the new Anemo Dragon Sovereign.
Who Is Murata in Genshin Impact and Is She the Pyro Archon
For the longest time, everyone in the Genshin Impact community had been calling the Pyro Archon as Murata, and this has still not died down completely. There are two major factors for players to suggest that Murata is (or was) the name of the Pyro Archon of Natlan.
The first major factor comes from the interaction between Venti and Vennessa in the Songs of the Wind comic. In the comic taking place 1000 years back, Venti finds Vennessa, a Muratan, in Mondstadt. Here, Muratan was originally used as a way to describe the people of Natlan, but due to an English mistranslation of the comics, fans started calling the Pyro Archon as Murata and there is another big reason for that.
Murata Himeko is a popular character from the Honkai Impact 3rd universe, and she was a Fire elemental type user. This is also seen with the Honkai Star Rail’s version of Himeko, who is another Fire type user. So, players assumed that Genshin Impact’s version of Murata Himeko is the Pyro Archon of Natlan. However, one major point about this is that Himeko was neither a Herrscher in Honkai Impact 3rd universe nor an Aeon or Emanator in the Star Rail universe, which is the Archon equivalent in the other games.
So, her character never held that kind of authority in any of the other universes and if she does have an EXPY in Genshin Impact (unless it’s Mavuika), it is also very unlikely for her to hold that much power.
Is Mavuika Pyro Archon or Pyro Sovereign
Now that you have a good understanding of the Dragon Sovereigns and Archons, let’s address the biggest theory regarding the Natlan in the community — whether Mavuika is the Pyro Archon or Pyro Dragon Sovereign.
From the Ignition teaser, it became clear that Mavuika is not just a simple character in Natlan, but holds a lot of power in the region, making her a clear favorite to be the Pyro Archon. But later in the teaser, we see her interact with a bundle of fire, expected to be the Primordial Fire, and then speak with another set of flames as if addressing a person. This has stirred up a ton of theory crafting in the community, with players considering the flames as a communication to the Pyro Archon or with the Pyro Sovereign.
With Neuvillette confirming that humans can become Dragon Sovereigns, a popular theory is suggesting thatMavuika is the Pyro Dragon Sovereign of Natlan and the Pyro Archon is long dead. But these are all theories that cannot be confirmed or fact-checked before the official release of Natlan in Genshin Impact 5.0.
Mauvika Could Be the Pyro Archon in Genshin Impact
So, after taking into account all the fan theories, lore drops and information we currently have about Natlan, the question still remains as to who is the actual Pyro Archon in Genshin Impact. To be frank, we cannot confirm it until the Natlan release, but if I had to guess, I would say that Mavuika is the current Pyro Archon in Genshin Impact. This was also confirmed during the Genshin Impact 5.0 Livestream by the developers, who mentioned Mavuika as the Pyro Archon.
From everything we have learned so far about the Pyro Archon, it is clear that she is a fiery Goddess of War and doesn’t shy away from challenges. Mavuika simply screams as someone who completely matches that role, someone who will face things head-on, instead of hiding herself away and using sly tactics.
For the moment, we can confirm that Mavuika is the current Pyro Archon in the story as confirmed during the Genshin Impact 5.0 Livestream, but as the game’s stories are filled with twists and turns, we cannot know it for sure until the end of the Archon quest. So, don’t shy away from dropping your theory about the Natlan and Pyro Archon in the comment section. We would love to know all of your opinions on the entire Pyro Archon debacle.
