Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for the story of Hunter x Hunter.
The Hunter x Hunter reboot anime ended almost a decade ago with no signs of revival. Thus, HxH veterans have been jumping ship to the manga lately to discover what’s happening to their favorite hunters. Fortunately, Yoshihiro Togashi’s masterpiece, Hunter x Hunter, has officially returned to Weekly Shonen Jump in October 2024 after a prolonged hiatus. So, if you plan on resuming your hunter journey, find out where to start the Hunter x Hunter manga after you watch the anime.
What Happened in the Hunter x Hunter Anime Finale?
After the extraordinary adaptation of the Chimera Ant arc, one of the best Hunter x Hunter arcs, the HxH anime (2011-2014) concluded with the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc. On one hand, Killua and his sister Nanika saved Gon and enabled him to fulfill his dream of meeting his dad, Ging Freeces. On the other, the election to decide the next chairman of the Hunter Association was in full swing.
After a long and tiring process, Pariston became the new chairman but stepped down to let Cheadle Yorkshire take his place. Why, you ask? The Hunter x Hunter manga shines a light on that.
As Gon was healed, he bid farewell to his best friend Killua and climbed up the World Tree to finally talk with his dad. While this sounded like a natural conclusion to the story, it is not the end of the road for Hunter x Hunter.
The HxH manga is still ongoing to this day, however, Togashi sensei has already shared an alternate ending to Hunter x Hunter in case fate puts an end to his beloved work.
What Chapter to Start Reading After Hunter x Hunter Anime?
Now that we have gone through a quick recap of Hunter x Hunter anime’s ending, you are good to resume the story with manga chapter 340 titled “Special Mission.” This chapter marks the beginning of the Succession Contest Arc. However, before that, we suggest you revisit chapter 339 titled “Stillness” for an in-depth summary of events until the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc.
While a majority of the fans watch the HxH 2011 reboot, some fans prefer the 1999 version for its nostalgic art style. So, if you have watched the Hunter x Hunter 1999 anime by Nippon Animation, you can start reading the manga from Chimera Ant arc, i.e. chapter 186 titled “The Queen.”
But I recommend you watch the Chimera Ant arc adaptation in the 2011 anime for its incredible animation quality, and then move on to the manga.
Which Arc is the HxH Manga Currently in?
The HxH manga has suffered from long-running hiatuses due to Togashi sensei’s health problems. However, over the last few months, the author has been hard at work on his beloved manga, and it has finally made a comeback in Weekly Shonen Jump earlier this year. So, the Succession Contest arc is still ongoing in the manga, with Kakin princes learning about Nen in Hunter x Hunter, and it has crossed the 400-chapter milestone.
With Togashi tirelessly working on new chapters, we will see the release of numerous chapters in 2024 after a long wait. So, let’s wait and see to find out if the manga will reach a new arc shortly.
