100 Unresolved Mysteries In One Piece That Need To Be Solved In The

The One Piece manga has been ongoing for nearly three decades now. Author Eiichiro Oda has spun one of the most intricate and fascinating pirate adventure tales we’ve ever seen. However, with more than 1,100 chapters until his belt, it’s but natural that there are many hypnotizing mysteries that are left unanswered, and they keep One Piece fans like me awake at night.

These multilayered mysteries, be it the meaning of D or Imu’s identity, have been knit into the fabric of One Piece over the years. However, as the manga entered the Final Saga with the Eggehead Island arc, Oda sensei carefully started peeling one layer at a time. The creator has started to unravel some of the most popular mysteries. But, there are still many unresolved mysteries that we’d like answers to.

So, if you are like me and want to keep track of these unexplained mysteries in One Piece, check out our detailed list to find out what they are.

30. Who are Nami’s Parents

As One Piece fans might remember, Bell-mère is the adoptive parent of Nami as she rescued her from a battlefield along with Nojiko. We never learned how an infant Nami ended up in such a war-torn place and who her biological parents were.

As Nami was able to control one of Big Mom’s soul powers, Zeus, people believed Big Mom could be the mother of Nami. However, it’s just a mere speculation, and we never know if we will actually meet her parents in a flashback. Oda recently revealed Franky’s father, so maybe we can hope to meet Nami’s parents next.

29. Why Will Luffy Destroy Fishman Island

During the Fishman Island arc, Madam Shyarly prophesied that Luffy would destroy the Fishman Island in the future. So, why would our protagonist who was helping nations suddenly destroy the underwater country? This question has been lingering in everyone’s minds ever since the prophecy.

A possible answer could be revealed when Luffy destroys the red line to unite the seas, Fishman Island will also take a hit as it is located directly below. This could result in Fishmen finally moving up to the human world as they have yearned.

28. Where is the All Blue?

The beloved cook of the Straw Hats Pirates, Sanji, dreams to visit All Blue in his lifetime. All Blue is the place where all different seas meet and has been the dream destination for all the chefs around the world. We are yet to visit the All Blue in the story.

Fans theorize that all the seas will be united to form the All Blue when the red line gets destroyed in the final saga. Hence, we patiently await the day when One Piece will finally introduce the All Blue.

27. Rocks D. Xebec’s Past and Defeat

Rocks D. Xebec is a name that sends chills down the spine of both the residents and readers of One Piece. He was a menacing antagonist and it took the combined powers of Roger and Garp to defeat him during the God Valley Incident. Other than the fact that he led a crew, we don’t know anything about his origin and how he was defeated. Thus, fans demand to learn about this legend before the series comes to an end.

26. Shanks and His Secrets

While Shanks appears to be on the side of our protagonist Luffy, his motives and actions remain as mysterious as ever. We still have no idea why he talked with Five Elders in the first place. There are rumors that Shanks was born a celestial dragon and he has an evil twin as it continuously hinted that he is related to Figarland Garling.

Recently, Shanks’ pirate crew destroyed one of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet’s crew, and we don’t know if this will trigger a war between Luffy and Shanks. In a nutshell, Shanks has always been quite the mysterious figure in the world of One Piece, and we wish to learn more about him.

25. Are Tashigi and Kuina the Same Person?

Longtime One Piece fans would remember Kuina, the rival and childhood friend of Zoro. Kuina dreamed of becoming the world’s greatest swordsman, just like Zoro, but unfortunately lost her life in an accident.

Later in the story, Tashigi was introduced in the Logue Town arc, and it blew everyone’s mind as her resemblance to Kuina was uncanny. It looked as if Kuina was brought back to life, which perplexed Zoroas well. It’s been a long time she was introded, yet Oda hasn’t revealed if Tashigi and Kuina are related.

Tashigi’s past has never been revealed in the story, so fans continue to wonder if they are the same person. For the same reason, fans ship Roronoa Zoro with Tashigi, hoping both sword enthusiasts end up together.

24. How are the Five Elders Immortal?

The flashback we saw for Saint Saturn in the Egghead arc pretty much confirmed that all the Five Elders have been ruling over the One Piece world for a long time. So, how are they able to be alive for that long? This is one of the long-standing mysteries in One Piece, and we know that it’s got to do something with their relation to Imu (more on them below).

Their leader recently killed St. Saturn for his failures, and we learned that only Imu is capable of stripping them of their vitality. They must have made some pact with the devil in the past, which fans might learn about in the finale.

23. What’s the Purpose of the Noah Ship?

The Noah is the biggest ship we have ever seen in One Piece. From its title and design, it is evident that Oda was inspired by Noah’s ark in the bible. It is currently located in the Sea Forest, and to this day, we don’t know who built this ship. But what we do know is that it was built during the Void Century and involves something Joy Boy‘s connection with Fishman Island.

The Fishmen are keeping this massive ship safe until a specific day comes. My best guess is that once All Blue is formed and Fishman Island gets destroyed in the process, this ship will help the people enter the world of humans.

22. The Mysterious Man with Crocus

On the cover page of One Piece chapter 631, there was a mysterious character drinking with Crocus. This panel has kept the fans thinking for more than a decade. His attire seems to resemble Golden Lion Shiki’s but fans also believe it could be Scopper Gaban visiting his old crewmate.

It looks like Oda is waiting to introduce this character at the right time. Recently, a new silhouette was teased at the beginning of the Elbaf arc. It was the man who was waiting for the Straw Hats in the home of the Giants. Now, fans immediately believe that the mysterious man who was seen with Crocus could be the same person in Elbaf but only time will tell.

21. Who are the Holy Knights?

At the end of the Wano Country arc, Monkey D. Dragon mentioned that there was another powerful group of antagonists under the command of the World Government. It is the God’s Knights aka the Holy Knights who is led by its supreme commander, Figarland Garling, who was recently promoted to join the Five Elders in One Piece.

We are yet to learn more about the group’s other members. These knights are teased to be one of the main villains in the endgame of One Piece and we look forward to witnessing their earth-shattering powers.

20. Kozuki Toki’s Origin Story

Even though the Wano Country arc concluded a while ago, we are still perplexed about Oden’s wife, Kozuki Toki’s character. She had one of the greatest devil fruit powers, which enabled her to time travel but only forward in time.

We are still left to ponder about her origins and why she leaped ahead in time right before the dawn of the world. Some fans think she could be Nefertari D. Lili. Now that she is dead, we are waiting to see who will get her devil fruit powers, or has someone got it already?

19. What is Crocodile’s Secret

There is one unresolved mystery that keeps One Piece fans awake at night, and it involves the secret between Emporio Ivankov and Sir Crocodile. Ivanokov noted that he knew something special about Crocodile’s weakness and blackmailed him in the past. That was back in the Impel Down arc (check out all One Piece arcs in order), and we still don’t know anything about Crocodile’s mysterious past yet, but fans theorized that Crocodile used to be a female in the past.

More specifically, people believe Crocodile could have been Luffy’s mother, and she switched genders later with Ivankov’s power. This is one of the many theories surrounding this secret, and so we hope to learn the reality when they meet again.

18. Owner of the Giant Straw Hat in Imu’s Possession

For a long time, Joy Boy was thought to be a giant as he was a revered figure among the giants in Elbaf. So, the giant Straw Hat in Imu’s hands was expected to belong to the OG Joy Boy. However, the recent design of Joy Boy revealed in the manga hinted at him being a normal-sized human. So, we are back to square one, wondering who the owner of the giant Straw Hat is.

17. What is the Treasure Hidden Inside Mary Geoise?

What if I tell you that there is another life-changing treasure other than One Piece in the story? Yes! There is a treasure that many fans often tend to forget. According to Doflamingo, there is a national treasure inside the Pangaea Castle located in the middle of Mary Geoise. He remarked that he could become the supreme ruler of this realm along with the gift of immortality. We currently don’t know anything else about this treasure, and the fans are waiting to learn about it in the final arc.

16. Nefertari Lili’s Disappearance and Betrayal

Nefertari Lili was the queen of the Arabasta Kingdom during the Void Century period. She cast aside the Celestial Dragon position for the Nefertari family and betrayed the other 19 monarchs when the World Government was first formed.

On her way back to her country, Lili disappeared from existence all of a sudden, possibly using her powerful time-traveling devil fruit. It is speculated that she was a companion of Joy Boy and an ally of the Wano country. Moreover, she is the person who was at the helm of laying poneglyphs all over the world according to Imu.

15. Who is the Pirate with an Eye Patch?

In the One Piece 10th Special Treasures collectors book, Oda mentioned he has been excited to draw a character with an eye patch. He further stated that this character will appear only during the final saga. In case you missed it, we are already well underway in the final saga of One Piece, and we are also itching to meet this character.

Recently, Joy Boy’s character design resembled the pirate-esque design Oda was talking about. But, fans also say Luffy could lose one of his eyes and wear an eyepatch later on in the final war. Thus, we are going to have to wait a while to meet the pirate with an eye patch in the manga.

14. Why Did Zunesha Get Punished?

Fans know that Zunesha was one of the nakama of the OG Joy Boy. However, the colossal elephant is said to have committed a grievous crime during the Void Century that resulted in its punishment of wandering the seas forever.

To this day, we are unaware of why was sentenced Zunesha in the first place and what crime did they commit. There are theories that Emet, Zunesha, and other companions of Joy Boy betrayed him during the Great War. But we have to wait for a direct explanation about this unresolved One Piece mystery from Oda sensei.

13. How Did Zoro Get a Scar in His Left Eye

In the time skip after the Marineford arc, the character design of our favorite swordsman Roronoa Zoro had a major change. Zoro got a tall scar on his left eye and has kept that eye closed since then. This sudden change made the fans beg for an explanation from Oda sensei, and we have never gotten any answers so far.

Some believe that it’s just a design change, and some fans say it will be explained by Oda when Zoro meets Mihawk again in battle. So let’s wait to see what’s the reason behind Zoro’s left eye scar in the future.

12. Who is Hinokizu – The Man with the Burn Scar?

The final road poneglyph that the Straw Hats need to collect before reaching Laugh Tale is said to be in the hands of The Man with the Burn Scar. He is known as the Hinokizu, and we haven’t seen him until now.

All we know about him is that he sails on a pitch-black ship and has vortex-related powers in One Piece. We are bound to get an answer to this unresolved mystery and learn all about this character soon as we are slowly nearing Laugh Tale.

11. What is The Great Kingdom?

The Great Kingdom in One Piece

The Great Kingdom, whose name is yet to be revealed in the story, is an ancient kingdom known to have possessed far more advanced technology than what we have in the world of One Piece now. It is speculated that Joy Boy hailed from this kingdom, and they had ancient weapons. There are more things to be learned about this kingdom, and we will likely do in the coming arcs.

10. Who is Luffy’s Mother?

From the beginning of the story, everyone has been wondering about Luffy’s parents. In the Ennies Lobby arc, Monkey D. Dragon was revealed to be Luffy’s father. That left us wondering about Luffy’s mother in One Piece.

For decades, there have been rumors about Oda introducing fans to Luffy’s mother. There are even wild theories such as Crocodile being Luffy’s mom in the past and the most recent being Ginny (later revealed to be Bonney’s mother). However, nothing has been confirmed yet from Oda and we never know if we will learn about Luffy’s mother in the future.

9. Role of SWORD Organization

The secret special force, SWORD, was introduced ages ago and we still haven’t learned about their role in the series. We have come to know about its members and allies after the Wano Country arc. However, there is not enough information about their role in the end game of One Piece, which is something we hope to learn soon.

8. Monkey D. Dragon’s Devil Fruit Powers

Fans have been waiting with bated breath to witness the true powers of Luffy’s father, Monkey D. Dragon. He is the world’s worst and most wanted criminal, and there must be a good reason for it. For years, he has been doing nothing but facing the east direction in every panel he has appeared.

Many fans like me are losing patience and are tired of this character just making cameos. We hope Oda sensei reveals his role, along with his devil fruit powers in the final saga.

7. Blackbeard and the Secret to His Two Devil Fruit Powers

Blackbeard in One Piece anime

Marshall D. Teach, popularly known as Blackbeard, has powers that are anomalies in the realm of One Piece. He is the only known character to possess two devil fruit powers, i.e. the Yami Yami no Mi and Gura Gura no Mi. The reason behind the phenomena is still unknown and that has led to numerous unsettling theories about Blackbeard. So, we would have to wait until his powers get explained in a backstory or a battle.

6. The Mystery Shrouding Void Century

Imu in One Piece

The Void Century has always been one of the constantly mysterious topics in One Piece. After a long time, Dr. Vegapunk finally revealed some interesting facts about this 100-year void in the history of this realm. The aftermath of the Great War, the origin of Joy Boy, and how the ancient kingdom was defeated, among other things are still to be explained entirely in the future.

5. What is Luffy’s True Dream?

Our beloved hero, Monkey D. Luffy, has always been resolute in his goal and aims to become the Pirate King. However, at the end of the Wano Country arc, Luffy revealed his true dream to his crewmates, which shocked everyone.

To achieve his final dream, Luffy must discover the One Piece treasure and become the Pirate King. Fans have already started crafting numerous theories about Luffy’s true dream, but I guess we will have to wait until the end of One Piece to get an answer to this unresolved mystery.

4. Joy Boy’s Origins

With each new manga chapter, we were always on the edge of our seats and eager to meet Joy Boy some day after he was mentioned in the Fishman Island arc. His character sounded similar to our rubbery hero, Luffy.

After years, we finally saw a silhouette and learned a little about his character. He was born in the Great Ancient Kingdom and later became the first pirate in the One Piece world. He is confirmed to be the previous devil fruit user of Hito Hito no Mi Model: Nika. We are yet to learn more about his past and powers, which are going to be all-time fan favorite moments for sure.

3. Imu’s Identity

Imu in One Piece
Image Courtesy: One Piece by Toei Animation (Fandom Wiki)

The introduction of Imu, the biggest and baddest antagonist in the world of One Piece, still gives us chills. The secret ruler of this world debuted back in the Reverie arc. However, in the recently ended Egghead arc, we got to learn a little more about this character, such as Ivankov referring to them as Saint Nerona Imu.

Apart from this, we know nothing about their origin, devil fruit powers, complete character design, etc. As the final saga is now underway, we are slowly getting closer to the day Imu’s identity will be revealed to the world.

What does the “D” in the name of several popular characters, like Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Luffy, and others stand for? This has been a long-standing question in One Piece’s history.

We have come across bits and pieces of information about the Will of D. But we’ve never learned the complete truth about the D in the middle of their names and the D clan’s history. For now, we know that the members of the D clan opposed the World Government during the Void Century, as confirmed by Imu. We would have to wait longer to learn the complete background of D.

1. Laugh Tale’s Location & One Piece Treasure

Though the series came into existence over 27 years ago, fans are still clueless about the One Piece treasure. There are countless theories, and we can never find the true answer to this mystery until Luffy finds this treasure.

Oda has confirmed that One Piece is a physical thing in the Laugh Tale. So, the treasure is definitely not the friends we made along the way. What the One Piece treasure is has got to be the biggest and most discussed unresolved mystery. The internet will be shattered into pieces the day it is revealed.

That’s a wrap to our list of unresolved mysteries in One Piece so far. This is indeed a pretty huge list and I’m excited to see how Oda is going to tackle all of these in the final saga. That said, if you think we have missed out on any other important mysteries, let us know in the comments below.
