Method 1: Message Yourself on WhatsApp

WhatsApp allows you to message yourself, which can help you keep tabs on important messages, and reminders or even send messages to people on the app without saving their number. Here’s how this method works:

1. On WhatsApp, head to your personal chat thread, the one with a “(You)” label.
2. Then, type or paste the unsaved phone number and send it in this chat.
3. Now, the unsaved phone number will appear blue in the chat.
4. Tap on the number and select Chat with <phone number> to message the person without saving them to contacts.

Method 2: Send a Message to an Unsaved Number in a Group

A WhatsApp group may contain participants whose numbers may not be saved in your phone’s address book. But the app still gives you the option to message them anyway. Here is how you can send a message to someone in a WhatsApp group, without saving their number.

1. Open the group chat and tap on an unsaved number from the conversation itself.
2. When you see a pop-up, tap on the Message icon.

3. If you can’t find the phone number in the group chat, tap on the group name from the top.
4. Then, scroll through the members list to look for the unsaved phone number you wish to text.

Method 3: Create a Link to Send WhatsApp Message to Unknown Number

WhatsApp also offers an official method to send message someone without saving their number. It’s called Click to Chat where you create a link, and add the number you want to text. There’s a major caveat, though. This feature isn’t available within the app, to use it, you can use your smartphone or PC web browser. Here’s how you can use it:

1. First, copy this link – https://wa.me/phone-number and paste it into your browser’s address bar. (You can also note it down for later use)
2. Next, replace phone-number in the link with the number of the person you want to message. Don’t add symbols (+ and -), zeros, or brackets while entering the phone number.
3. If the number is available on WhatsApp, you will see a “Chat on WhatsApp <phone number>” text on the screen. To text this person, tap on continue chatting or Continue to Chat.

Example: To message someone in India, you will use a link like this – https://wa.me/919876543210. Here, 91 is the country code for India, and 9876543210 is the phone number. Similarly, you can use “1” as the country code if you reside in the US.

Note

When you enter a number that doesn’t belong to a WhatsApp user, you will see an error message. It reads, “The phone number <number> isn’t on WhatsApp.“

Method 4: Message Unsaved Number Using iPhone Shortcuts App

If you are a hardcore iOS user who likes to use Siri shortcuts for various tasks like ejecting water from iPhone speakers, viewing the file size, or quickly taking a picture, then you would appreciate the existence of this Siri shortcut to message unsaved numbers on WhatsApp. Here’s how you can use it:

1. Go to the WhatsApp Unsaved Number shortcut (website) on a browser.
2. When you’re redirected you to the Apple Shortcuts app, tap on Add Shortcut at the bottom.
3. The app will add this shortcut to your iPhone. Now tap on the WhatsApp Unsaved Number shortcut to run it.
4. Enter the unsaved number you want to text on WhatsApp and tap on Done.

5. In the privacy pop-up, select Allow to grant WhatsApp access to this shortcut.
