The arrival of Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, one of the Five Elders in One Piece, to the futuristic island was something fans didn’t expect at the beginning of the Egghead arc. He was one of the main bringers of chaos on Egghead Island as he summoned all the other Elders to fight the Straw Hats. As the Egghead arc wrapped up, Eiichiro Oda delivered a definitive conclusion for Saturn’s character in the One Piece manga. So, let’s discuss what happened to Saint Saturn at the end of the Egghead arc.

Spoilers Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Saturn’s character in the One Piece manga by Eiichiro Oda. So, we suggest you read the manga beforehand to avoid ruing the intended experience.

First, let me walk you through the events that led to St. Saturn’s tragic situation at the end of the Egghead arc. Saturn took the matter of the Egghead incident into his own hands and started his journey to the island. He wanted to confront Dr. Vegapunk and also confiscate the vital futuristic technology after the old man betrayed the World Government.

Furthermore, Saturn was backed up by Admiral Kizaru and had a marine fleet at his disposal. Thus, he was well-prepared to deal with the chaos that was about to happen on Egghead Island. Soon after arriving near the island, Saturn in his hybrid form teleported onto the island and came face-to-face with Dr. Vegapunk.

Saturn’s Actions Turned into a Fiasco

Saint Saturn stabbed Vegapunk to punish him for his actions and this resulted in the beginning of Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast to the world. He even summoned the four remaining Elders to stop the world from learning the truth about the Void Century and Joy Boy, the first-ever pirate. However, all these measures weren’t enough to stop Luffy and his past actions came to haunt him.

At this point, we also need to mention the time when Emet attacked Marie Geoise. During this time, St. Saturn went against the orders of scrapping the ancient giant robot to allow scientists to research and utilize it for their military power. However, this plan misfired as the dormant robot became active again on Egghead Island to help Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates crew members escape.

This is also one of the main reasons for Saturn’s downfall along with giving Bonney her devil fruit powers, letting Kuma escape. All the nefarious activities he did in his grand plan misfired big time, and in the end, the decision to let Saturn live after all his failures was in the hands of Imu.

Even though St. Saturn could take a small win home for the World Government, it wasn’t enough to save his life. Imu didn’t tolerate the fact that he had Joy Boy in his grasp and yet allowed him to slip and escape. An enraged Imu decided to punish Saturn for committing the worst mistake of his life.

Even though Saturn begged for his life at the hands of his leader, Imu couldn’t forgive his actions at Egghead; primarily letting Luffy escape. So, Imu sucked the living force out of him and left his skull & bones on the ground. In the end, Saturn got his deserving and most gruesome death in the series, and that too at the hands of the leader he followed.

I’m glad that a despicable character like Saint Saturn was killed by Imu in the Egghead arc’s climax. He deserved this end for considering and treating others as insects. In the end, he got squashed like an insect by Imu, which was what the fandom yearned to happen for a long time.

So, Saturn is now dead in the One Piece manga series; reaping what he sowed. We won’t be able to witness this in the anime anytime soon as it is on hiatus for the next six months. That said, what do you think about Saturn’s death in One Piece? Let us know in the comments below.
