Honkai Star Rail: Rappa’s Story Of Her Tragic Past Will Move You To Tears

Honkai Star Rail 2.6 Trailblaze Continuance mission was a wild ride, filled with bananas, monkeys, and rap. The mission may have appeared to be fun-hearted, but it held a tragic underline of manipulation that showed the true vileness of propaganda and gave us a peak at one of the worst villains in the Honkai Star Rail universe. The most tragic part of the Trailblaze Continuance mission was Rappa’s past.

We finally learned the origin of the Dazzling Ninja and it was heart-wrenching. Sadly, although the 2.6 Trailblaze mission had a great undertone and storyline, it was also extremely confusing. If you didn’t understand Rappa’s past story in Honkai Star Rail, here is a detailed explanation of it by me.

Dr. Primitive Is One of the Most Evil People in HSR

Before I can explain Rappa’s backstory, I must first touch on Dr. Primitive and his evil plans that destroyed multiple worlds in the HSR universe. Dr. Primitive is the #64 of the Genius Society and an intergalactic criminal who has done multiple planet-spanning experiments that regress humans back to their past form, monkey, destroying multiple worlds in the process.

Dr. Primitive believes that human beings have become stale as they are unable to evolve, which is why they will eventually go extinct. So, he created a memetic virus that can regress human beings to their past form of an ape or monkey, “unlocking their evolution potential” in the process. The most vile part of this plan is that most humans who regress into monkeys lose their memories or senses as humans.

So, how is Dr. Primitive connected to Rappa? Dr. Primitive has thousands of followers and scientists who follow his ideals of experimentation without morals. These scientists execute Dr. Primitive’s experiments and one such experiment was Rappa.

Rappa’s Tragic Past and the Origin of the Dazzling Ninja

During version 2.6 Trailblaze continuance mission, we get a peek into Rappa’s past using Mr. Reca’s abilities. Here we learn that Rappa was not trained on an actual Ninja planet, but was simply an experiment by the followers of Dr. Primitive.

Rappa’s name was AK-A-3 and she, among many others, was experimented upon by the Denisovans — Kucha and Umbra Headmistress. The peculiar thing about Rappa was that she was extremely tolerant of the experiments ran on her, withstanding extreme pain and becoming stronger through it. This was a party because of Kucha, her Ninja master, who got attached to the little girl.

Kucha allowed Rappa to read his manga collection, which was all about Ninjas and their fight against the Evil Ninja Osaru. Rappa misconstrued this as the reality and that was the birth of the Dazzling Ninja. Kucha used terms from the manga and made Rappa think that the experimentswere a form of Ninja training. So, Rappa withstood the experiments at all odds, to become a “true Ninja hero”, and defeat the evil Ninja Osaru, who she had replaced with Dr. Primitive in her mind.

Why Rappa Talks Differently in Honkai Star Rail

One of the tools Dr. Primitive uses to destroy multiple worlds is the memetic virus, which corrupts the mind of humans, making them almost worship something inconsequential to their lives, in this case, the slumbernana monkeys, and slowly regressing them into apes.

Kucha used a modified memetic virus on Rappa, not to regress her, but to help her tackle the harsh experimentation. So, Rappa is also infected by the memetic virus, but she uses it as a weapon to tackle the Slumbernana memetic virus and increase her strength instead. Due to the memetic virus, and the early exposure to Ninja manga, Rappa became fascinated with the Dazzling Ninja and made it her reality.

Master Kucha’s Sacrifice and Rappa Becoming the Ninja Hero

Eventually, seeing the free hand Kucha gave to Rappa, her overseeing and development was transferred to “Umbra Headmistress”, who was promoted to Ape from Denisovan becoming Kucha’s superior. Rappa however, would not follow the instructions of Umbra Headmistress, like she did with Kucha, and this made the Research Apes dub her as a failure.

Being dubbed a failure, Rappa would undergo harsher experimentation and Kucha could not let it happen. So, he created a disruption tech and modified it into a graffiti spray. He gave it to Rappa and told her to spray it all over the research station to disrupt their shields against the Galaxy Rangers. Rappa took this as her final exam to become the Ninja Hero, and she defeated all the combat apes in the research station to fulfill her task.

The years of experimentation on Rappa had substantially increased her strength, making her strong and capable enough to defeat the combat apes. Meanwhile, Kucha took it into his hands to deal with the Umbra Headmistress, shooting her with a gun, assumedly ending her life.

Rappa Joining Galaxy Rangers and the Reveal of Her Childhood Form

When Rappa disrupted the shields in the research station, it allowed the Galaxy Rangers to pinpoint the location and raid it. That is when one female Galaxy Ranger found Rappa among the defeated researchers. This is where a big reveal is made, as we finally see Rappa’s true childhood form.

While playing as Rappa in her past, she kept on having the appearance of her normal Dazzling Ninja self, which is likely how she perceived herself in the past. However, the reality was starkly different. The real look at Rappa’s past showed us the actual state she was in while being experimented. Rappa was only a kid, wearing a tattered lab experimentation cloth and a collar on her neck.

As Rappa learned about the Galaxy Ranger’s identity, the first thing she did was ask to join them and pursue Dr. Primitive.
